Density
When to choose this option: You need the density of a solid, powder or shaped piece for quality control, porosity or formulation.
Density is the ratio of a sample’s mass to its volume, but because many materials contain pores, cracks and inter-particle voids, there are several definitions of density depending on what is included in the measured volume. For this area, Micromeritics offers two complementary instruments: AccuPyc for true (and skeletal) density by gas pycnometry, and GeoPyc for envelope and T.A.P. density of shaped pieces and powders, without the use of hazardous materials.
Which instrument should you choose?
- Through-porosity of sheets, membranes, separators or filters (bubble point, mean flow pore, through-pore size distribution) – without mercury → AccuPore
- Pore size distribution, total pore volume and/or sample density (powder, granules, porous solid material, meso- and macropores) – mercury porosimetry → AutoPore V
- Micro- and mesoporosity analysis, or BET surface area on the same sample → 3Flex / ASAP series (see the “BET Surface Area” option)
