Powder Flow

powder flow & rheology

When to choose this option: You need to characterize powder behavior/flow during handling, storage, dosing or manufacturing (pharmaceuticals, food, additive manufacturing, batteries).

Powder flow describes the behavior of powdered materials under various handling conditions, and is studied through powder rheology – how a powder flows under applied stress and how its bulk properties (density, compressibility, permeability) change as a result. Flow is affected by particle size and shape, density, surface, moisture and electrostatic charge, so a poor understanding of powder flow directly impacts production processes, product quality and reproducibility. In the Micromeritics lineup, this is the only instrument in the “Powder flow” category – it is manufactured by Freeman Technology Ltd (UK), a company within the Micromeritics/Malvern Panalytical group.
